Program Overview

Navigating UK” is a 6-week flexible program designed for students from developing countries in Africa and Asia who are preparing to study in international colleges and universities in the United Kingdom. Delivered in a hybrid format (both in-person and virtually via Zoom), the program offers workshops that equip students with essential tools for a smooth emotional, social, and academic transition.

week 1

Introduction & Expectations

Emotional Resilience & Mental Health

Cultural Awareness & Societal Adjustment

  • Understanding cultural shock and cultural sensitivity

  • Common challenges faced in a new country

  • Tools for cultural adaptation and respect

Week 4

Communication & Social Integration

    • Language and Communication

    • Building effective communication skills

    • Social Integration and Making Friends

    • Developing friendships and support networks

    • Assertiveness, boundaries, and confidence building

week 5

Activity Week, Follow Up and First Impressions

  • Interactive Cultural Orientation Workshops: Simulated cross-cultural situations to help students prepare for daily life and academic expectations abroad.

  • First Impressions Coaching: Guidance on presenting oneself confidently in academic, social, and professional settings (e.g., at orientation or networking events).

  • Peer-Led Experience Sharing Circles: Sessions with students already studying abroad to discuss real experiences, common challenges, and emotional adjustment.

  • Progress Review & Personal Check-Ins: One-on-one follow-ups with counsellors to assess mindset readiness, clarify goals, and address any lingering anxieties.

Week 6

Reflection, Meditation Sessions and Ongoing Support.

  • Guided Reflection Exercises: Journaling prompts and group discussions to help students process their journey, emotions, and growth.
  • Mindfulness and Meditation Practices: Breathwork, grounding techniques, and emotional regulation strategies to build inner calm before classes and study.
  • Creating a Personal Resilience Toolkit: Students develop a personalised self-care and coping strategy guide to carry with them abroad.
  • Establishing a Support Continuum: Introduction to ongoing virtual support, alumni networks, and mental health resources available while studying internationally.
